The PMI South Florida Chapter would like to announce that Gregory Balestrero, President and CEO of PMI, will be visiting the South Florida Chapter on September 9th, 2008.  Mr. Balestrero will address three different events on that date.  

Special Dinner Meeting  6:00 – 9:00 pm
Greg Balestrero was Executive Director for CSI for 8 years before becoming the CEO of the Project Management Institute in 2002. As CEO of PMI, Mr. Balestrero provides leadership and expertise in strategic management for the organization and carries out two primary goals for PMI: building a superior project management practice and gaining global acceptance for the profession.  During his tenure, PMI has grown from 93,000 members to almost 250,000 members in 164 countries with 283 Components, Special Interest Groups and Colleges worldwide.

Greg will highlight Project Management as a core competency in today’s business world. Come hear Greg address your day to day concerns and pain points. Build a relationship with PMI through its CEO.

Association  Networking Session (By invitation only) 4:00 – 5:00 pm
Leaders of Local Associations will have an opportunity to meet with Greg and share challenges in managing professional organizations including how to do strategic planning, how to ensure organizations are meeting the needs of growing memberships and how to manage fund raising drives.

Gregory Balestrero brings more than 20 years experience in executive-level association experience to the Project Management Institute (PMI). An industrial engineer by training, Mr. Balestrero has extensive experience overseeing administrative, financial and internal affairs for professional associations. From 1994-2002, he served as executive director of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), an organization of construction professionals in non-residential building construction, based in Alexandria, VA USA He previously held the position of executive director at the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) in Atlanta, GA USA.

As CEO of PMI, Mr. Balestrero provides leadership and expertise in strategic management for the organization and carries out two primary goals for PMI: building a superior project management practice and gaining global acceptance for the profession. During his tenure, PMI has grown from 93,000 members to almost 250,000 members in 164 countries with 283 Components, Special Interest Groups and Colleges worldwide.

Mr. Balestrero served as the 2003-2004 Board Chairman of the Greater Washington Society of Association Executives (GWSAE) and an active member and former president of the Council of Engineering and Scientific Society Executives (CESSE). Mr. Balestrero also is a member of the Committee of 100 of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He is a current member of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), where he served on the Board of Directors for ASAE’s Center for Association Leadership (CAL) through 2006; the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE); and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). He is also a member of The Thought Leadership Advisory Council for the CAL.

Mr. Balestrero was honored with a fellowship in the World Academy of Productivity Scientists and was inducted into Alpha Pi Mu, an industrial engineering honor society, as an honorary member. He earned a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and he is a U. S. Army veteran.

Mr. Balestrero has represented PMI at special events in more than 30 countries throughout the world. He is quoted frequently in national and international media and has appeared as a guest on news and business television, including CNBC and the BBC.

His recreational interests include sailing, motorcycling and backpacking. Mr. Balestrero has been happily married to his wife, Frances Higgins, for 30 years.
