School is out, Summer is almost here and there is still lots to do. The results are in and our Leadership presentation on May 10th by Dr. James Brown was a success. This summer we will deliver our famous PMP Prep course in Spanish, a PM Fundamentals course with our partner Stock the Mind, and another collaborative event. To register for any of these events, go to http://www.acteva.com/go/sfla-pmi These programs cannot be delivered without the help of our volunteers. If you are interested in joining these teams, please email Milton Carvajal, our Director Volunteer Relations at

Mark your calendars. The Chapter is proud to have for our June dinner meeting Mr. Steve Maldonado, CIO for Neff Rentals. Steve is a regular speaker at Project World and has a great presentation on the role of EPM and IT Governance initiatives. Steve will speak at both the Dade Dinner Meeting and the Broward Dinner meeting locations.
Many times we are not aware of the great accomplishments of our member companies. Did you know that a company in our Chapter was a finalist for the 2007 PMO of the Year? Yes, the NCCI PMO was one of the numerous highly-competitive submissions from Project Management Offices (PMO) nationwide and identified as one of the four finalists for the 2007 PMO of the Year Award.
The winner and other two finalists of this prestigious award are as follows:
- Winner: Norton HealthCare--The largest not-for-profit healthcare system in Kentucky, rates as one of the top 100 healthcare systems in the U.S.
- Finalist: EDS--Ranked as 111 on the 2007 Fortune 500 listing as the largest IT service provider on that list, and last year's PMO of the Year Award winner.
- Finalist: New York City Housing Authority--the largest public housing aurthority n the U.S.
The NCCI PMO is proud to be a member of such an illustrious group of diverse professionals.
In the PMO of the Year Award nomination letter to the evaluation committee, Heidi W. Boehringer, NCCI Director–PMO, stated, “It is never due to a single person that a department or organization succeeds. Rather, it is through the synergy and hard work of everyone in an organization that any given entity succeeds, and that each wave of change delivers inventive processes that become the norm, laying the foundation for critical success. This has clearly been the case in NCCI, making the PMO a success, and reflecting very favorably on the entire NCCI organization.”
Please share with us your accomplishments. It is great to know organizations that are being recognized in our community.
I'd also like to introduce new board members that are eager to deliver our programs:
- Monodip Bhattacharya, PMP, Director Event Promotion
- Marco Diclei, PMP Direct Event Project Plan Management
- Debra Fahey, PMP, Director of Outreach Education
- Janet Kerr PMP. Director Event Speakers
Your 2007 board has a great lineup of events to help you achieve your goals. Whether its to achieve Project Management credentials like the CAPM, PMP or PgMP or increase your professional development through leadership courses, we have a program for you.
There are quite a few open board positions available. Please contact our Director of Volunteer Relations, Milton Carvajal for more information. As always, we cannot do this alone, it is with volunteers that want to make a difference. If you would love to make a difference and be a part of getting Back to Basics, please let me know.
Fraternally,
Teresa Colon, PMP
