Hot on the heels of the launch of the new website, the chapter is happy to announce that we have further enhanced the site to make it even more accessible to the mobile user via their smartphone or PDA.
|
As more web savvy recreational and business users begin to use the
internet capabilities of new generation cellphones and PDA devices,
there is an increased need to serve those on-the-go customers using a
"mobile" interface.
While almost any website can be accessed via these small-screen
devices, the layout, use of graphics and overall experience can be less
than desirable or even unusable.
By recognizing the type of device accessing the site, and serving up the content in a reduced interface that is optimized for that device, we can ensure that important Chapter and PMI information is available no matter where you are.
Researchers at IDC say that 1.3 billion people will connect to the Internet via mobile phones by 2008….and mobile phones outsell PC’s by about 4 to 1.
Many of the world’s top companies provide this feature within their web presence. Organizations like FedEx, BBC, New York Times, ESPN and many more, recognize the need to deliver information in an easy-to-view interface. The South Florida PMI chapter is proud to be able to offer this feature also.
If you simply go to the chapter’s website on your mobile device, you will notice that the main menu along the left of the screen on a regular PC has been replaced with a simple text-based menu at the top of the screen. Many of the other graphic-intensive elements have either been removed or replaced with a simpler look-and-feel.
Look for further enhancement to the website, (both regular and mobile versions), in the future.
