teresa_100_wide.jpgDon't you love the fall season?  School is back in session and the temperature starts to drop.  At least in South Florida we hope it does!  I cannot believe we are three quarters into 2007!  Where did the time go?

The PMI South Florida Chapter still has more programs to provide before the year is out.  Our October Dinner meeting has two great speakers well known in our community.

For our Dade dinner meeting, Alex Trujillo, President of Veracity Management Group will present the organizational benefits of a PMO, through the eyes of a CIO.  For our Broward dinner meeting, Rich Sands Principle Project Manager at the South Florida Water Management District, will present the challenges and tribulations of managing a project team in a functional organizational structure.

Also, as part of our Outreach program, Patricia Garofano, President-Elect and Kathy Ericsson, VP Membership both attended a Joint kick-off meeting of the Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach Chapters of the Construction Specification Institute on Sept 11th.  They met Mario Ibanez, President of the Fort Lauderdale Chapter, Thelma Komo, President of the Palm Beach Chapter, and Walt Marlowe, the Institute Executive Director.  They were welcomed by Dianne Ehmann of the Fort Lauderdale Chapter who is well known in PMI.

Come join the Chapter at the October 9th meeting of the Construction Specification Institute Fort Lauderdale Chapter Meeting where we will have our very own Kathy Ericsson, VP Membership, participate on a panel discussion on the future of the construction industry.  Look for more joint events with the Construction Specification Institute in the coming months.

On the Professional Development front, and back by popular demand, Dr. James T. Brown will present his one day Risk Management seminar on Friday, November 2nd.  As a project management practitioner in South Florida, we have to manage risk every hurricane season.  Why not get the tools to help you mitigate the risks for your project?  As a participant, you will be able to define risk management, Understand the advantages of risk management as a process, identify all project risks in a team environment, write effective risk statements and many more.

Sign up here http://www.sebasolutions.com/public_seminars_risk_fl.html as seats are filling up fast.

Our annual Chapter elections are underway.  Thank you for voting.  If you have not voted, please do so before September 24, 2007 at midnight.  You vote will help shape the future of your Chapter and the programs we provide.  We will be conducting our business meeting and present the election results to you.  The results will be posted after the October meeting.

Please join me in welcoming Arline Hruschka as our new VP Finance.  She is challenged with ensuring that we maintain our fiduciary responsibility to PMI and our members.  This is not an easy task as we are improving and building new programs for our membership.  There are other volunteering opportunities available in the Chapter, if you are interested, please contact us.

I look forward to seeing you at our next event.

Fraternally,

Teresa Colon, PMP
