Although Keller Graduate School students in Fort Lauderdale are known for taking their laptop computers to the beach or using Saturdays to catch up on homework, a select group of students welcomed the Project Management Institute (PMI) South Florida Chapter to Keller Graduate School of Management (KGSM) in Fort Lauderdale on the Saturday before finals.
PMI South Florida Chapter Marketing & Development Board Members met at the Fort Lauderdale DeVry University Center (DVUC) on Saturday morning August 25th to plan outreach program activities. The group was welcomed by Dean Antoinette Cuppari, and students from the Fort Lauderdale DVUC, who are studying Project Management at Keller Graduate School.
The South Florida Chapter Project Management meeting was chaired by Charlene Hudak, PMI South Florida Chapter Vice President of Marketing and Development. All of the students from the Fort Lauderdale Club have volunteered to support the outreach activities planned by the PMI Chapter’s Marketing team. Debra Fahey, Director of Outreach, will work with club members on launching outreach activities targeting high schools in Broward and Palm Beach Counties. Future plans are to involve Keller PM Club members in with other marketing and development activities involving sponsorship and partners with V.P. Charlene Hudak and Director Gregory Kemmer.

The Fort Lauderdale Project Management Club will be advised by Gregory Kemmer, Graduate Admission Representative at the Fort Lauderdale Center. Gregory is also serving as a Director of Outreach and Board Member for South Florida Chapter PMI.
“Our project management club was formed because our classroom learning experience stresses a case studies and hands-on approach to learning. We have heard terrific things about PMI and are please to be involved”, says Dionisio Osorio, Co-Founder of the Project Management Cub in Fort Lauderdale. The South Florida Chapter Project Management Institute 2007 Outreach Program launch is in alignment with PMI’s strategic Outreach. The purpose of the South Florida Chapter PMI Outreach Program is to advance organizations, educational institutions, partners and sponsors, understanding and application of both project management and the project management profession. Outreach volunteers provide presentations, speakers, advice, and networking relative to project management activities. The Outreach program does not include staff training, vendor referrals or formal consulting. Volunteers gain networking opportunities along with increased project management knowledge and experience.
The initial South Florida Chapter PMI Outreach will be reaching out to Educational Institutions, Associations, Partners and Sponsors. Future Outreach initiatives will include educating and advising Organizations on the benefits, understanding and application of Project and Program Management. The South Florida Chapter PMI Chapter aligns its efforts with the PMI global organization strategic objectives and the CEO’s global Advocacy program in addition to the South Florida Chapter’s 2007-2009 Strategic Plan.
For additional information about PMI, the Project Management Profession, and the Education and Association/Partner Outreach Program, contact one of the Outreach Directors or the Vice President of Marketing and Development and arrange for a presentation or a discussion with them.
