Wow, 2007 is almost done and there is still much to do for you our members!
As I end my term as the 2007 President of the PMI South Florida Chapter, I look back to a year of collaboration, meeting new members and just having some fun.
I’d like to ask that you join me at our December Holiday Party to hear Lara Chabina-Crowe’s presentation on The Entrepreneurial Approach to Project Management. Lara will be discussing the values associated with being an entrepreneur Project Manager.
We have changed the venue of our Broward meeting just for this purpose. Instead of the Westin in Ft Lauderdale, we will meet at the Sheraton near the Ft Lauderdale airport. We will still have our regular Dinner meeting but we have included a toy drive for those children in our community that may not enjoy the holidays.
Last year the PMI South Florida Chapter board members got together for their Strategic Planning session and I decided that my platform is to get "Back to Basics" and become the "Chapter with a Heart." What better way to give back to our community than have a toy drive for those children. We have selected ChildNet as the recipient of the toys. ChildNet's mission is to protect Broward County's abused, neglected and abandoned children, to assure their safety and to promptly provide them with a permanent, loving home. We have asked our partners to provide some raffle items to allow each participant that brings an unwrapped toy a raffle ticket.
For our December meeting, we have collaborated with the International Institute of Business Analysis South Florida Chapter. The local Chapter members have been invited to join us and network with our members. The President, Robert Goldman is excited to have this networking opportunity with our Chapter and I am sure you will find many common points of views.
In November the Chapter conducted a University of Miami Scholarship competition where students were mentored with PMPs and presented a formal Charter to a panel of judges. We presented the winning teams with scholarship funds to continue their education. Some of our board members attended the ITWomen Charity fundraiser that provides scholarships to girls in need.
This October we held our 2008 Strategic Planning session and have great plans for our future. Once we finalize our plans, we will need committee members to help achieve these goals. If you’ve ever wanted to lead an interesting project, think about joining our committees. Look for our plans to be published soon.
Please join me in introducing Patricia Garofano as your 2008 President.
Fraternally,
Teresa Colon, PMP
President
